Große Scheibe

Große Scheibe, above Mürzzuschlag in Styria, is a club-run thermal site launching from a short grass strip in a forest clearing near the Scheibenhütte hut. Getting there means either a hike on foot or a ride on the club bus — no private vehicles are allowed on the access road up to launch. The site rewards pilots who already have solid wing control and clean launch technique, given the tight forest-clearing setup. Thermals here are genuinely worth the trip. Finding the landing field is easy, both from the ground and from the air: a large, gently sloping meadow at the north edge of Mürzzuschlag, visible well before you need to commit to your approach.
