Where it is

Loser Startplatz 3 sits a little higher than the other Loser launches, at about 1,770 m, and faces southeast to south. Like the other takeoffs on this mountain — rated among the best in the Altaussee region — it's reached by car via the toll road, the Loserstrasse, so getting to a strong launch point doesn't require a long walk. Cross-country flying along the Ennstal is a realistic option from here once you've climbed away from launch. The landing carries the same warning as the rest of the Loser sites: use only the upper part of the landing field, between the windsock hut and the Kurhaus extension, and inspect it on foot before your first flight in. The larger-looking area between the Kurhaus and the sports field is not the safer choice it appears — turbulent wind there makes for an unpleasant landing. With its slightly higher launch and the same easy toll-road access, it's a good alternative start point on a mountain worth knowing well before flying the landing for the first time.

Local rules & hazards

As with the other Loser launches, land only in the upper section between the windsock hut and the Kurhaus extension, and inspect it beforehand. The bigger-looking field between the Kurhaus and sports ground is prone to turbulence and an unpleasant landing.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Loser Startplatz 3, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Loser Startplatz 3 with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
