Stubnerkogel Startplatz 2

Stubnerkogel Startplatz 2 is a serious cross-country mountain in the Gastein valley, Austria, at 2,209 m, launching on north and north-west winds. The Stubnerkogelbahn cable car — reached from the south end of the village next to the train station — carries pilots roughly 1,000 m above Bad Gastein in about fifteen minutes, opening onto a full panoramic view of the surrounding Hohe Tauern peaks. Two launches sit just north of the summit station near the transmitter mast: an east-facing one that catches thermals early in the day with a view toward the Graukogel, and a gently sloping north-facing meadow behind the mast. This is proven cross-country terrain — the first 200 km FAI-triangle flight on a paraglider was flown from here — and from spring onward, XC flights run easily along the Gasteinertal valley, with the bigger routes continuing on into the Pinzgau region, typically following the valley's eastern flanks in the morning.
