Where it is
Lutersee is a Swiss paragliding launch in the Engelberg valley, at about 1,382 m and facing east — a site that flies best in the morning, before the day's thermal cycle changes the picture. The takeoff itself is easy to find: look for the large stone with a windsock marking the spot. To get there, drive toward Engelberg and follow the signs for the 'Lutersee/Rugisbalm' cable railway to its valley station, from where the mountain railway carries you up. Because the east-facing window rewards an early start, this suits pilots planning a first flight of the day rather than an afternoon session — by the time the sun has fully come round, the morning smoothness this site is known for tends to be gone. Landing is at the dedicated Lutersee Landeplatz.
Getting there & local rules
Drive toward Engelberg and follow the signs for the 'Lutersee/Rugisbalm' cable railway to its valley station; the mountain railway carries you up to launch, which is marked by a large stone with a windsock.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Lutersee, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Lutersee with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
