Where it is
Am Weinberge – Am Saalenweg, at about 290 m facing north, is part of a small cluster of related flying grounds near Fritzlar in Hesse. Before flying here, pilots are required to phone the air traffic safety office at Fritzlar tower to inform them of the planned flight operation — this isn't optional courtesy, it's how the site coexists with nearby air traffic. On the ground, farm fences that would otherwise pose an obstacle during flying are removed or laid flat for the flying window. The one real airborne hazard to know about: possible lee turbulence along the tree line bordering the landing field, which can catch a pilot who assumes the approach will be as clean as the launch looked.
