Ascheloh – Hermannsweg

Ascheloh – Hermannsweg is a paragliding site in Germany at 290 m, on the ridge of the Teutoburg Forest, launching only on west and south-west wind (west-south-west is the ideal line). The site was cleared and is maintained through a lot of volunteer effort, and the launch itself can only be reached on foot — it sits in a narrow forest corridor along the ridge, so crosswind launches are a hard no: they bring strong turbulence in that confined space. First-time pilots need an on-site briefing on the local conditions before launching, and nobody launches at all when the corridor is turbulent. Landing is in the lower part, on the meadow in the slope's run-out — the same field a local flight school uses for ground training, so check in if it's busy before you land there.

Local rules & hazards

Launches are only for pilots who have permission from the site holder and have been briefed on the local conditions by them or a delegate — crosswind launches are banned outright because of the strong turbulence they cause in the forest corridor, and nobody launches when the corridor itself is turbulent.
