Bad Wildbad's Meistern – Kienhalde launch sits at 690 m in the Black Forest, worked on southwest, west or northwest wind. Like most Black Forest sites, it launches out of a gap cut into the forest rather than open terrain, and that shapes the flying — wind funnelling through the clearing doesn't always behave simply, so conditions here take more reading than an open hillside would. Every pilot, local or visiting, needs a briefing from the club on the site's quirks before their first flight. Driving in is only possible as far as the parking area at the so-called Butterhütte; beyond that it's on foot. If a crosswind brings turbulence that would make for an unsafe launch, flying simply stops until it settles. Landings happen down at the Kurpark landing field in town.
