Böhming

Böhming is an excellent east-wind flying site in the Altmühl valley, but the launch itself is demanding and explicitly not for beginners — it's on the small side and sits inside a gap. Landing is on the far side of the Altmühl river, near the chapel, so pilots need to plan their glide to cross the river safely and with time to spare. The site is popular for cross-country flights. There have been recurring friction with residents when pilots fly low over the nearby village of Regelmannsbrunn, which has a fish farm — this village must never be overflown at low altitude. Launches only happen in prevailing east wind, and crosswind launches aren't allowed. Every pilot needs a briefing before flying, including a hazard briefing that covers the site's emergency landing options — short of the Altmühl, and on the plateau behind the launch. Guest access is limited to a capped quota of visiting pilots.
