Where it is

winchFlatland XC

Reitwein is a winch-tow flying site in Brandenburg, Germany, at just 15 m altitude, right on the Oder river that forms the border with Poland. It works wind from the north or south, and the site's two standing rules both come from its location: the nearby Reitweiner Sporn escarpment is off-limits to overflight from March through August to protect nesting birds, and pilots have to keep at least 1 km of lateral distance from the Oder itself, since that river is the national border. That border proximity is the detail that separates this site from an ordinary flatland field — flying too close to the Oder isn't just a courtesy, it's a hard line to stay the right side of before wind or altitude even become a factor.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Reitwein, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Reitwein with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
