Where it is
Tröglhang is one of three linked takeoff points in the Kreuzeck area above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, launching from 1,540 m on wind from the north to north-west, alongside the nearby Hexenkessel-Kreuzjoch and Kandahar-Kreuzjoch launches that share the same landing field. Flying here stops the moment the weather turns critical, and the launch sits close enough to the cable car that pilots keep a firm safety distance from the cableway and from the netting and masts strung along the right side of the field. To protect the legally protected alpine pastures around the launch, pilots are asked to set up and launch from the gravel patches bordering the meadow rather than from the grass itself. Tröglhang also hosts paragliding instruction, though training flights here require two instructors present rather than one, reflecting the extra care this particular launch point calls for.
Launch & conditions
Keep a safety distance from the cable car and its netting and masts on the right side of the launch, and set up on the gravel rather than the protected pasture grass.
Local rules & hazards
Flying stops here the moment weather turns critical, and pilots keep a safety distance from the adjacent cable car, its netting and masts on the right side of the field. Training flights require two instructors present at launch, and setup should stay on the gravel patches rather than the legally protected alpine pasture.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Tröglhang Startplatz, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Tröglhang Startplatz with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
