Where it is

Übungsgelände Pfulb is a paragliding training ground in Germany at about 756 m, with landings at the dedicated Pfulb Landeplatz. As a designated Übungsgelände (practice site), it's built for repetition rather than big flights — a place to log short, controlled hops and rebuild currency rather than chase distance. Launch works on north wind only, so it's a single-direction site and only flyable when the wind lines up; there's no fallback face to switch to if it swings around. Flying here is seasonal and tightly managed: the site only operates from mid-April to mid-October, and pilot numbers on any flying day are capped, both there to protect the surrounding landscape. Because of that, it suits a pilot working structured repetitions more than a spontaneous solo visit — check the local rules and season before planning a trip.

Local rules & hazards

Flying is limited to 15 April–15 October each year, on weekdays and Saturdays only, with a handful of Sunday exceptions reserved for taster courses. No more than 10 pilots may fly on any given day, and vehicles must stay on existing tracks and park only in the marked public areas.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Übungsgelände Pfulb, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Übungsgelände Pfulb with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
