Where it is
Wanne is a demanding cliff-launch site for paragliders only — hang gliding currently isn't flown here — set at about 695 m with a northeast-facing takeoff. The club that runs it is explicit that this launch suits only pilots with extensive flying experience and excellent canopy control: the takeoff is a genuine cliff edge, so the wing must already be fully overhead well before a pilot reaches it, and any launch attempt that isn't clean by that point has to be aborted. Wings are laid out at least four canopy-lengths back from the edge, with no lingering or unnecessary groundhandling closer in. Guest flights are only allowed with a club member present and consenting, plus an on-site briefing; members can withdraw guest flying rights at any time if rules aren't followed or the airspace gets crowded. Conditions have to be clean and laminar — no gusty or thermic days — and top-landing is not allowed when it's turbulent. The landing field itself is sloped, so plan the approach accordingly.
Local rules & hazards
This is a cliff launch reserved for pilots with extensive experience and excellent canopy handling: the wing must be fully overhead before reaching the edge, launches happen only in clean, laminar conditions, and single-seat aircraft only — no tandem or training flights. The landing field is sloped, top-landing is not permitted in turbulent conditions, and pilots should carry a phone and reserve-parachute deployment line on every flight.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Wanne, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Wanne with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
