Where it is
Weingartshälde is a low-altitude site at 288 m in Germany, flown on south and southeast winds, with its official landing along the river Jagst near a sewage treatment plant. It closes to all flying during the March–June bird-breeding season, and pilots must keep at least 50 m of clearance — both vertically and horizontally — from the road that runs below the site. The landing situation needs real judgment: if the main field near the treatment plant doesn't look reachable, there's a backup landing south of the Jagst, and the local guidance is to commit to it early rather than pushing for the primary field and running out of options. The site is explicitly flagged as unsuitable for training flights, so it's a better fit for pilots who can already read an approach and make that primary-vs-backup call confidently, rather than a first-solo kind of spot.
Local rules & hazards
Flying is closed here during the March–June breeding season. Keep at least 50 m of clearance, vertically and horizontally, from the road below the site. If the main landing near the sewage plant doesn't look reachable, divert early to the backup field south of the Jagst — this site isn't set up for student-level training.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Weingartshälde, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Weingartshälde with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
