Gitschberg Startplatz 6

Gitschberg Startplatz 6 is one of the lower launch points on this South Tyrol mountain, at around 1,497 metres and flyable with a southeast wind. Unlike the higher launches on the same peak, this one crosses farmland, so pilots need to ask the local farmers for permission to launch before flying here — a courtesy that keeps the site available for everyone. The Gitschberg system as a whole is known as a strong starting point for cross-country flights along the Puster Valley, with striking Dolomite views from higher up the mountain, and a cable car and chairlift network that serves it in winter. Landing logistics are worth knowing in advance: the designated landing at Meransen sits roughly at half the mountain's height, and getting there from a launch this high usually needs some lift picked up along the way. Only mown meadows in Meransen are open for landing, so respect that boundary on the way in.
