Where it is
Monte Pic reaches 2,364 m above the Val Gardena towns of St. Ulrich and St. Christina in South Tyrol, and is rated locally as an excellent hike-and-fly objective from either village. The mountain's pyramid-like shape means pilots can in principle launch toward any compass direction depending on where the wind sits on the day, though the wind direction most commonly recorded here is from the north. The designated landing is the Monte Seura field. Because that landing ground is actively farmed, pilots are asked to confirm the landing situation with the landowner before flying and to get permission to land there, rather than assuming access — a straightforward courtesy that keeps the field open for pilots after you. Between the genuine hike-and-fly appeal, the multi-directional launch potential from the summit, and the need to square away landing permission in advance, Monte Pic rewards a bit of planning ahead of a big, scenic Dolomites-adjacent flight.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Monte Pic, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Monte Pic with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
