Where it is
Choralpe, above Westendorf in Austria's Kitzbüheler Alps, is a multi-launch site known for solid thermals and a genuinely spectacular alpine setting — this is the east launch, reached by roughly 15 minutes of walking from the top station in summer, sitting on a ridge north of the mountain station with room for several wings to lay out. From here, getting to the landing field means flying north over the mountain ridge with enough height in hand to clear it comfortably — don't cut that margin close. The site's other launches (west and north) work best in different conditions, but from the east side you're set up for northeast, east or southeast wind. Thermals across the whole area are usually easiest to find from late morning onward, and on a good day they support real cross-country lines toward the Pinzgau region. The landing field itself is large and easy to spot: it sits directly opposite the valley station, just behind the car park, marked by a windsock big enough to see from a distance.
