Golzentipp Startplatz 2

Golzentipp Startplatz 2 is a straightforward flying area in the heart of East Tyrol, Austria, launching from 2,150 m and explicitly well suited to beginners despite the high alpine altitude. The takeoff is a simple southwest-facing launch right below the mountain station, so getting to the start doesn't require a demanding hike, and the site is set up to be approachable rather than intimidating for pilots early in their flying. That doesn't mean it's only a beginner hill, though: good thermal flying is possible here pretty much anytime conditions cooperate, so more experienced pilots looking for a reliable thermal session in East Tyrol have reason to visit too. The landing field matches the easy character of the launch — large, only gently sloped, and equipped with a windsock, sitting at the southern edge of Obertilliach village, which gives pilots a generous, well-marked target to aim for on the way down. Wind from the southwest or west is what the launch is built for.
