Where it is
Riesner Alm is a mountain flying area in Austria, flown in both summer and winter, with a take-off at 1,788 m facing south-east. It's built around a mountain railway: the grass launch sits right next to the top station, and the large landing field sits right next to the valley station below, so the whole site reads as unusually convenient — no long carry, no awkward final glide into a tight field. That ease is exactly why it's popular with tandem pilots as well as solo flyers: both the take-off and the landing are genuinely straightforward, which is rare for a site at this altitude. It's a good example of an Alpine site built around existing lift infrastructure rather than a hike, which keeps it accessible across a wide range of experience levels and through most of the year.
Launch & conditions
The grass launch sits right beside the mountain railway's top station, and works on a south-east wind.
Getting there & local rules
The mountain railway serves both ends: the launch is next to the top station, and the landing is next to the valley station below.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Riesner Alm, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Riesner Alm with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
