Where it is

Am Geisberg is a German launch nicknamed the 'Übungshang' — training slope — at about 362 m, best flown on wind from south to south-west, though current site rules limit how much genuine training happens there today: student flights are only conditionally allowed, and pilots need a solid command of turning flight first. A written briefing is required before flying, flight operations have to stop by 19:00, and it's only conditionally suitable for hang-gliders. Pilots must keep at least 50 m of horizontal and vertical distance from the K 206 district road, and stay well clear of the power lines nearby. Tandem flights are allowed here. The extensively-used meadow right in the launch area is specifically excluded from the flying permit, so don't count on using it. Parking is limited to the areas at Sauwaad and near the swimming pool — anywhere else is off-limits.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Am Geisberg (Übungshang), read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Am Geisberg (Übungshang) with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
