Where it is

Am Rammelsberg Südwest is one of the northernmost ridge-soaring sites in Germany, with over 250 m of vertical relief and a southwest-facing launch at 610 m. Every pilot needs a briefing before flying the southwest start, and visiting guest pilots additionally need to hold an unrestricted license (B-Schein) — this isn't a site for pilots still training. On weekends and public holidays, the mountain is reached via a shuttle service organized by club members rather than driving up independently. Guests are welcome, and a day fee applies, payable locally. Given the vertical relief and the specific regulations around the southwest launch, it's worth reading the site's own flight-operations rules before your first visit.
