Where it is
Amihang is a training slope in Germany built specifically for basic paragliding instruction, at around 730 m and facing north. The site's own rules make clear why it's tightly controlled: because of the narrow, tree-lined clearing, nearby obstacles and a small landing area, basic training here is only permitted in calm conditions or very light wind — not a site to use once the breeze picks up. Student-permit holders are explicitly barred from practicing unsupervised; an instructor needs to be present. For any flight or ground-handling exercise with more than 15 m of height difference, only wings with a glide ratio under four — training-specific gear — may be used, which limits how far a student can glide even on a longer exercise. Taken together, this is a controlled, low-consequence training environment rather than a general-purpose launch, and it's explicitly suited to pilots still in basic training rather than licensed pilots looking for a normal flight.
Local rules & hazards
Because of the narrow clearing, nearby obstacles and small landing area, training only happens in calm or very light wind. Student-permit holders may not practice unsupervised, and any exercise with more than 15 m of height difference must use a wing with a glide ratio under four.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Amihang, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Amihang with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
