An der Schieferkuhle

An der Schieferkuhle, at about 570 m facing west, is a paragliding site used specifically for basic flight-school training rather than general recreational flying. The rules that govern it are built around protecting the land it sits on: the instructing school has to keep every training flight confined to the designated takeoff and landing areas, and existing features worth protecting — hedgerows, tree lines, orchard trees — must not be disturbed by flying activity. The farm and forestry access tracks crossing the area have to stay clear for agricultural and forestry vehicles at all times. After each day of training, the fields used have to be left in proper order, with any rubbish collected and disposed of correctly. One detail worth knowing if you show up outside a scheduled session: the barbed-wire pasture fence in the landing area is only taken down for training days, so it may well be back up between sessions.
