Where it is

Braunenberg is a launch right at the edge of a forest clearing in Bavaria, at about 661 m, best flown in a southwest wind. A briefing is required before flying here for the first time. Launching is only allowed when the ground is dry, and the surrounding heathland is protected, so pilots keep foot traffic on it to the unavoidable minimum and never drive across it. Launch marshals posted along the access path make sure flying doesn't get in the way of walkers and other recreational visitors, and everyone using the site is expected to treat the nature and landscape here gently. Organized flight-school training is explicitly not permitted at Braunenberg — it's set up for individual pilots rather than instruction. A quiet, conservation-minded local hill where the ground rules matter as much as the wind direction.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Braunenberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch.
