Büschergrund/Breitscheid

Büschergrund/Breitscheid is a paragliding site in Germany at 360 m, near the Hünsborn airfield in North Rhine-Westphalia. Like the nearby Osterberg site, it's set up mainly for winch towing and flatland flying, giving pilots a way to log airtime without needing strong ridge lift. Launch is possible on easterly, south-easterly, westerly and north-westerly winds, a solid spread of directions for a low-altitude site, though which line is in use on a given day comes down to how the winch tow is set up. The site borders protected nature reserves, so both the flight path and the launch/landing procedure are shaped around keeping clear of them — a factor that matters more here than the wind chart alone suggests. It's best treated as a training and currency ground between bigger trips rather than a cross-country destination, and pilots unfamiliar with the area should get a local briefing before flying, since access and winch operations shift with the season.

Local rules & hazards

Both launch and landing must keep at least 100 m clear of the adjoining Gambachtal and Wendingtal/Peimbachtal nature reserves, and any overflight of those reserves needs at least 300 m of ground clearance — wind and launch direction have to be chosen with that in mind for the whole flight, not just at launch. Flying is restricted to the window from two hours after sunrise until sunset, with a hard cutoff at 20:00. Vehicle access to launch and landing runs only along the existing tracks, and pilots need to stay clear of the Hünsborn airfield's traffic pattern.
