Where it is

Dieberg is a German launch right on the border with the Czech Republic, on a semi-wild meadow inside a forest gap at about 620 m, facing west. Precision matters here: pilots should only launch when the wind is coming exactly from the front — crosswind launches aren't permitted — and a briefing from the local paragliding club is required before flying. Access to the launch is best done on foot. The landing meadow is generously sized, but hang glider pilots need solid slope-landing skills, since the terrain there slopes downward. Training flights and tandem flights aren't part of the standard set-up here — they'd only become possible if the lower part of the gap were widened and the site's permit extended to cover them. About 1.2 km south of the site there's a flood-retention reservoir; pilots may only approach it down to the height of the dam wall, to protect the birds that use it.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Dieberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Dieberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
