Graach

Graach is a scenic paragliding site above the vineyard terraces of the Moselle valley in Germany, with a steep launch that drops away quickly from the hillside above the vines. The valley below is classic Moselle wine country, and the view down the river is part of the draw, but the approach demands real attention: the landing field sits in the narrow strip between the road and the Moselle river itself, which is relatively long as landing fields go but leaves no real margin for a badly judged final. A fixed safety distance from the federal road below must be respected on every approach, and pilots who find themselves too low for a normal landing pattern are expected to fly straight into the crosswind leg rather than trying to stretch the glide to make the original plan work. Wind from the southwest or west suits the steep launch above the vineyards; anything else and the exposed hillside takeoff isn't the place to force a flight.

On final approach, pilots must keep a 50 m distance from the B 53 federal road below; a pilot arriving too low for the intended landing point must fly directly into the crosswind leg rather than trying to stretch the approach.
