Where it is
Hausen Ost completes the three-lane Hausen tow cluster in Lower Franconia, Bavaria, launching from 345 m on south-east wind and sharing the Mainberg landing field at Albanpark with the Süd and West-und-Nord lanes nearby. The same rules bind all three: a yearly cap of 35 flying days, no more than 10 pilots on the ground at once, and a ban on low overflight of the adjoining Garstadt bird-protection area. Landing technique matters as much here as on its sister lanes — the shared field is narrow and runs long rather than wide, with crosswise sections that call for confident precision landings from solo and tandem pilots alike. First-time visitors get a briefing on the site's particulars before flying, and the ground crew keeps a close watch on the fixed obstacles along the cluster's tow lines throughout every tow.
Launch & conditions
Launch by winch tow only, with constant visual contact between pilot and winch operator — the same yearly cap applies here: 35 flying days, 10 pilots at a time.
Local rules & hazards
Like its neighbouring lanes, Hausen Ost borders the Garstadt bird-protection area and must never be overflown at low altitude, and its stretch of the shared landing field is narrow and partly crosswise, requiring solid precision-landing technique from every pilot, tandem included. The tow line runs past fixed obstacles that the ground crew keeps clear of the rope during every tow, aborting if needed.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Hausen Ost, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Hausen Ost with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
