Where it is

winchFlatland XC

Hollfeld is a winch-tow flying site in Bavaria, Germany, at around 408 m, working wind from the northeast or southwest. It's a working farmland field rather than a fixed strip: launch and landing areas shift with what's growing there, so usability depends on the crop status at any given time rather than being fixed year-round. Because of that, pilots are expected to contact the landowner before using the site, rather than treating it as open access — a small courtesy that keeps the arrangement working for everyone who flies there. With two opposite wind directions to work with, there's usually a workable heading, but the crop-dependent layout is the detail that actually decides whether a session is possible on a given day, more than the wind does.

Local rules & hazards

Contact the landowner before using the site; launch and landing areas depend on the current crop status on the fields.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Hollfeld, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Hollfeld with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
