Kleinkummerfeld

Kleinkummerfeld is a winch-launch flatland site in Schleswig-Holstein, near Kiel in northern Germany, workable in east, southeast, west or northwest wind. At just 29 m above sea level it's true flatland flying — every flight starts on the tow line rather than a hill, which makes it a practical training and currency site. Safety around the tow strip is taken seriously: the point where the field path crosses the towline gets marked with pylons on both sides whenever flying is underway, and the whole tow line has to stay at least 25 m from the road running alongside it — a rule that applies to paragliders and hang gliders overflying it too. If anyone — a pedestrian, cyclist or vehicle — appears on the road, towing simply stops until they're clear, and doesn't restart until the road is clear again. For cart-launched hang-glider starts, solo or tandem, the ground has to be firm enough that the launch cart's wheels won't sink in, whatever the conditions.
