Predigtstuhl Startplatz Schlegelmulde

Predigtstuhl's Schlegelmulde launch sits at 1,610 m in the Lattengebirge above Bad Reichenhall, reached by a 10-minute walk from the cable car's top station — the only one of the Reichenhall mountains with a lift that convenient. That ease of access is misleading, though: the wind here is genuinely complicated, and this particular launch, facing northeast, is short, cliff-like terrain that's really built for hang gliders rather than paragliders. It's boxed in behind by a chairlift and drops away steeply into the Alpgarten valley in front, so a paraglider with a larger wing and long lines takes on real risk launching from it. The wind needs to be sitting cleanly on the slope before anyone commits — this is not a forgiving site, and it's aimed at experienced pilots who already understand mountain aerology, not a place to learn on.

Launch & conditions

The Schlegelmulde launch, 10 minutes on foot from the cable car's top station, faces northeast and is short, steep, cliff-like terrain — mainly suited to hang gliders. Paragliders with a larger wingspan and long lines take on real risk launching here, and the wind must sit cleanly on the slope before launching.

Local rules & hazards

To protect nesting birds, the southwest side of the Hochschlegel may only be overflown at a minimum of 150 m above the terrain.
