Where it is

Schienerberg is a north to northeast-facing site above Lake Constance, flown under a formal conservation agreement with the Konstanz nature authority — the club has to report flying days and pilot numbers to them every year, which says something about how carefully this site is managed. The ground itself is protected too: no altering the terrain, no structures of any kind, and every scrap of rubbish gets carried out after each flying day. There's no parking in the launch or landing zone, so plan to leave vehicles elsewhere. Whenever flying is active, the access track on either side of the flight path gets marked off with signage to keep it clear. The core safety rule is simple but strict: launch only in a clean headwind, and every pilot gets warned about lee danger the moment there's any crosswind component.

Local rules & hazards

Flying here operates under a formal agreement with the Konstanz nature conservation authority: no altering the terrain, no structures, and all waste must be removed after every flying day.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Schienerberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Schienerberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
