Schmirchauer Höhe

Schmirchauer Höhe is a German site at about 372 m that flies on a wide range of wind directions from north-east right around to north-west — but it's members-only, with no guest flying possible at all, so this isn't a site a visiting pilot can simply turn up to fly. Every member needs a briefing from the site holder on the terrain's specifics before their first flight, and flying days and participant numbers get logged and reported annually to the local nature conservation authority. During the breeding season between April and August, ground-nesting birds can be present on the landing areas, so pilots are told to vacate the landing field immediately if that happens. The former Wismut mining facilities nearby must not be overflown, and soaring rules for flying close to the slope get special emphasis during every briefing.
