Where it is

Gländfeld is a training hill in Bavaria, Germany — a modest slope with about 33 m of height difference, built for exactly what its name says: a practice site (Schulungsgelände) where new pilots take their first controlled runs under supervision rather than a mountain launch. The take-off sits at 685 m, and the hillside works on southwest to west winds, which is the direction a beginner slope is chosen for in the first place: consistent, moderate lift low to the ground, with room to bail out safely if a launch goes wrong. It's exactly the kind of site a flying school uses for the first sessions of a course, before students move up to bigger terrain. The surrounding countryside is protected wetland, home to ground-nesting birds, so respecting the marked boundaries here matters as much as the flying itself.

Launch & conditions

Southwest to west winds are what make this training hill work — check for a clean, obstacle-free line before running out onto the roughly 33 m slope.

Local rules & hazards

The wet meadows in the Entenaubach valley just west of the site, and the ground-nesting-bird areas roughly 400 m to the north and west, are protected habitat — do not fly over or disturb them, and stay within the marked training-hill area.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Schulungsgelände Gländfeld, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Schulungsgelände Gländfeld with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
