Where it is

Schulungsgelände Gschwend is the training area within the wider Todtnau flying region in the Black Forest, at about 658 m, best flown in south, southwest or west wind, with its own landing field at Fluggebiet Todtnau. It sits alongside two other local launches, Hasenhorn and Silberberg, both under strict seasonal restrictions worth knowing even if you're only flying from Gschwend: Hasenhorn is closed to flying, and the nearby Rabenfelsen closed to overflight, every year from 1 March to 31 May for bird protection, and cross-country pilots are asked to avoid approaching Hasenhorn at all during that window or otherwise keep at least 100 m clear — and to watch for birds and keep distance even once the closure ends. Silberberg carries its own seasonal ban from 1 December to 30 June for wildlife and bird protection. A training-focused base in a region where the surrounding launches carry real, dated closures that any cross-country flight from here needs to respect.
