Spielberg

Spielberg is a paragliding site in Germany at 531 m, launching on east wind, with a height difference of 76 m down to the main landing field. It hosts both student training flights and general soaring, so weather has to suit whichever activity is running, and on strong soaring days the number of pilots working the lift band gets limited to keep things safe. The only way in is on foot, from the village of Hümpfershausen along the signposted Vorderrhönweg trail — no driving onto the launch site or the surrounding dry grassland, which is protected. The take-off area itself is a defined patch, no more than 50 m wide and 30 m of run-up, so the margins are tighter than at a big open hill. Park at the village-owned car park by the sports field, not at the launch.

Training flights only happen when conditions suit student pilots, and pilot numbers in the usable lift band may be capped on strong soaring days. The launch area is a defined patch — no more than 50 m wide with 30 m of run-up — reached only on foot via the signposted Vorderrhönweg trail; driving onto the site or the surrounding protected grassland is forbidden.
