Where it is
Walberla – Ehrenbürg is the traditional flying mountain of the North Bavarian hang gliding scene, a table-top peak in Franconian Switzerland that rises about 200 m above the surrounding plain with a genuinely great view — the site's cross-country record stands at 250 km. This is primarily a hang-gliding mountain: there's a guest-flying arrangement for visiting hang glider pilots, though equipment has to be carried up on foot. Paragliding here is restricted to members of the local clubs that operate the site — it isn't open to paragliding guests. The mountain sits inside a nature reserve, so a number of conditions apply. Training flights of any kind are not permitted, and neither is commercial tandem flying. If you're not gaining height, head to the landing area in good time rather than risking an out-landing, and only fly here with weather conditions and a glider that can reliably reach the landing zone.
