Where it is
Wanfried–Aue (Auf den Hierrain) is a small, demanding flying site above the village of Aue, with good cross-country potential — but it's explicitly a B-licence site, and every pilot needs a site briefing before flying. The launch is a narrow gap cut into the hillside, used by both hang glider and paraglider pilots. Flying is capped at a maximum of 20 days a year, with no more than six pilots allowed to use the site on any given day, and launches only happen in northwest wind. Nearby nature reserves must not be overflown — the country road between Aue and Niederdünzebach and the line by Schloß-Gut Aue mark the overflight boundary. Getting to the launch and landing areas is limited to one round trip by car per flying day, on the shortest route, and permission for that route has to come from the path's owner. Flying is banned outright on days with heavy hiking traffic, including major German public holidays like Easter, 1 May, Ascension, Pentecost and 3 October. Landing is on a large field at the foot of the slope, west of Aue.
