Where it is

Weiten Gesäß is a training slope for paragliding and hang-gliding students at 360 m in Germany, with launches facing southwest or northwest. Flying here only happens by arrangement with the site manager — contact ahead of time, though short-notice requests are welcome — and other flight schools may be able to use the slope too, by arrangement. Only student pilots who can already safely execute turning flight are permitted to launch here, so it's a step up from a very first practice hang. In the landing area, watch for the dip in the ground and the pasture fence, and keep sufficient safety distance from both throughout flying.

Local rules & hazards

In the landing area, watch for the ground dip and the pasture fence — keep a safe distance from both during flying operations.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Weiten Gesäß, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Weiten Gesäß with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
