Where it is
Cucetto Tabellone is a hike-friendly mountain site in the Italian Alps with a spacious grassy takeoff that easily holds more than ten wings at once. Most pilots launch toward the southeast or west, where the ground is easy going, though a northeast option exists too, on a smaller patch that's stonier and needs more care. There are no access restrictions on either takeoff or landing, but reaching the top does mean at least a 30-minute hike, longer depending on fitness — hike-and-fly pilots can also approach from the landing zone or from Pinasca, a route that takes one to two hours. There's no water source on the summit or ridge itself, though villages along the way up have fountains worth topping up at. The site is generous in autumn and winter and turns genuinely strong through spring and summer, when a valley breeze typically sets in around 10–11 a.m. and holds until early evening; it can build to around 25 km/h but is rarely too strong for a safe landing. Multiple landing options are available, with the main one marked locally, and top-landing is easy if it's ever needed.
Launch & conditions
Spacious grassy takeoff holding 10+ wings comfortably; southeast and west launches are easy, while a smaller, stonier northeast option needs more care.
Getting there & local rules
No access restrictions on takeoff or landing. Reaching the top takeoff takes at least a 30-minute hike; hike-and-fly pilots can also approach via the landing zone or from Pinasca (roughly 1–2 hours depending on fitness).
Local rules & hazards
Airspace here is Class G up to 5,900 m AMSL, with standard free-flying rules applying. A valley breeze typically builds around 10–11 a.m. and lasts into early evening, occasionally reaching about 25 km/h but rarely too strong for a safe landing. No water is available on the summit or ridge — fountains in villages along the hike up are the place to refill.
