Principe

Principe is a Val di Susa launch above Sant'Ambrogio, ideal for hike-and-fly or afternoon-valley-breeze soaring — and neatly combinable with a visit to the Sacra di San Michele monastery. The takeoff was recently opened and cleaned; it fits 2–3 gliders and is a bit steep, but suitable for all skill levels except the very newest beginners. It's a peaceful, well-set-up option for pilots who want a shorter approach than the bigger Val di Susa launches.

Getting there & local rules

Three access options: 1) Footpath from Sant'Ambrogio on a stone-paved trail — 600 m of vertical from the village. At the main parking, take the asphalt road down, then follow the gravel path on the right. 2) By via ferrata — a simple and spectacular route from Sant'Ambrogio ends right at the monastery; from there head to the main parking and follow option 1. Typically 2–3 hours; use light gear. 3) By car up to the parking area.

Local rules & hazards

Minimum cloudbase required: 840 m. Flying with the valley breeze or in calm conditions is fine. Do NOT fly here in a strong west wind — you'd be in the rotor; it may look flyable but will be unpleasant and dangerous in the air. Standard Italian flying rules apply.
