Monte Subasio Startplatz 5

Monte Subasio's ridge above Assisi holds several launch points along its length, and this south-facing spot sits lower on the mountain at just over 1,000 m. Like the other launches here, it's best known for mellow evening soaring once the day's thermic activity settles, with lift that stays gentle and easy to read. A top landing is workable in calm conditions, though the official landing field for this launch lies further down the slope. Heading west toward Bastia Umbra is off-limits for cross-country flights because of the Assisi–Perugia controlled airspace covering that side of the valley. Drivers reach the launch via Spello or Assisi, with the upper stretch of road turning to loose gravel that stays passable in an ordinary car; shuttle transport up the mountain is also an option on busy weekends. The historic town of Assisi sits just below, worth the stop either side of a flight.
