Where it is
Goveclik launches from 1,509 m behind the city of Denizli in southwestern Turkey, with genuine cross-country pedigree — flights over 100 km are possible across the surrounding mountains and flatlands, and the site has hosted PWCA task planning and Super Finals competition flying. The main takeoff faces northeast, though the dominant afternoon wind runs west, which makes later launches trickier and more turbulent; a second, easier takeoff faces northwest and only needs a short walk down to reach. A strong inversion layer caps climbs at around 2,400 m above takeoff, though drifting back to the main mountain shoulder makes it possible to punch through. Takeoff sits in a restricted area, so contact local pilots ahead of any trip to arrange permission — a briefing covering airspace and nearby military areas is part of that, and smoking is not allowed at takeoff or while driving up, since the mountain is treated as a heritage site. Getting there means taking a minibus from Denizli's main bus station to the landing district, then a genuinely rough 45-minute trip up to takeoff that calls for a strong vehicle. West wind tends to build in the afternoon but is considered very predictable — conditions here don't usually shift dramatically unless already forecast to.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Goveclik, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Goveclik with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
