Where it is

Diedamskopf Startplatz 3 Mittelstation is the mid-station launch on one of Vorarlberg's best-known panorama mountains in the Bregenzerwald, at about 1,639 m facing south — one of several launches on the mountain alongside the main sites near the top station's radio tower and another at the Diedamsplateau, all reached by a two-section cable car that tops out around 2,060 m. The south-facing slope makes the whole mountain thermally active early in the season, with strong thermal connections running toward the Kleinwalsertal, Lechtal and Arlberg. Launching is only allowed from the marked sites with a windsock, never from ski slopes in winter, and pilots must stay inside the designated flight corridor and above 300 m AGL as much as possible to avoid disturbing wildlife — steering clear of tree-sparse ridgelines and known animal habitat, and giving any spotted animals a wide berth. The landing field sits about 350 m below the valley station next to the regional road, and landing on the neighbouring private plots is not allowed; in winter, once the meadows are snow-covered, pilots can land in front of a nearby hotel instead, though vehicle access to the landing field itself stays closed year-round.

Local rules & hazards

Launching is only permitted from the marked sites with a windsock — never from ski slopes in winter — and pilots must stay inside the designated flight corridor, avoiding the Üntschen and Kanisfluh areas specifically, and keep to at least 300 m AGL wherever possible to avoid disturbing wildlife and its known habitats. Landing on the plots adjoining the official landing field is not permitted; in winter, once the meadows are snow-covered, landing in front of a nearby hotel is the alternative, though vehicle access to the landing field stays closed year-round.
