Mittag Startplatz Süd

Mittag's south launch is a big takeoff area above the mountain station, reached by following the hiking trail up toward the summit. Like the rest of the mountain, it's approved for both hang gliders and paragliders and known for good spring thermals and calm-evening soaring, with views north over the lowlands and south into the Allgäu high Alps, all reached by chair lift from Immenstadt. From here pilots need to clear the ridge in good time and with enough height on the way to the shared landing field, watching for foehn conditions and expecting a lee effect whenever the wind has a southwest or west component. The landing field sits on the plateau between Ettensberg and Altmummen and can turn turbulent in strong wind — landing on the meadows right by the cable car's valley station is banned outright, since residents there report violations to the police.

Local rules & hazards

Landing on the meadows beside the cable car's valley station is banned, and residents report violations to the police. The shared landing field between Ettensberg and Altmummen can turn turbulent in strong wind, sits above wildlife habitat requiring at least 100 m clearance, and a left-hand landing pattern is mandatory since hang gliders and paragliders share the field. The separate summit-terrace launch is restricted to B-licence pilots.
