Where it is
Mittag's main launch faces northeast, an alpine meadow about 70 m below the mountain-station terrace, reached by chair lift from Immenstadt. Both hang gliders and paragliders are approved here, thermals are best in spring, and calm evenings often bring good soaring with views stretching north over the lowlands and south into the Allgäu high Alps. A winter deer enclosure to the west may not be overflown from 1 November to 15 May, and a feeding station on the south side is off-limits from December through April. The shared landing field sits on the plateau between Ettensberg and Altmummen and can turn turbulent in strong wind — landing on the meadows right by the cable car's valley station is banned outright, since residents there report pilots to the police. In a north wind, don't let the takeoff drift you past the ridge, and expect a lee effect whenever the wind carries a west component.
Launch & conditions
Launch faces northeast, about 70 m below the terrace. Don't drift past the ridge in a north wind, and expect lee turbulence if the wind has any west component. Overflying the winter deer enclosure to the west is banned from 1 November to 15 May.
Getting there & local rules
Ride the chair lift up from Immenstadt; parking at the Tannenhof is not allowed.
Local rules & hazards
Landing on the meadows beside the cable car's valley station is banned, and residents report violations to the police. The shared landing field between Ettensberg and Altmummen can turn turbulent in strong wind, sits above wildlife habitat requiring at least 100 m clearance, and a left-hand landing pattern is mandatory since hang gliders and paragliders share the field. The separate summit-terrace launch is restricted to B-licence pilots.
Check conditions before you fly
