Greifenburg

Greifenburg is a training and school flying site above the town of the same name in Carinthia, Austria, at about 1,068 m, with a beautiful grass launch and a landing area right by a campsite. Favorable wind is from the south. The launch sits in a sheltered position, which means there's almost always at least a light, flyable breeze to work with — a real advantage for practice flights compared with more exposed sites. A shuttle service handles the drive up, so getting to launch doesn't require a hike. The landing field sits next to the “Oberes Drautal” flying camp beside a lake, which makes it a popular, sociable spot, but pilots need to watch for power lines around the area and stick strictly to the landing pattern — especially when several pilots are on approach at the same time, since a crowded pattern near power lines is exactly when things go wrong.
