Embergeralm – Greifenburg

Embergeralm, above the well-known summer flying camp at Greifenburg in Carinthia, is a genuine cross-country playground with multiple launch options along the hillside — one right at the bus terminal, others higher up for a longer initial glide. Getting up is easy: a shuttle bus from the camp costs around 10 EUR, no reservation needed, running roughly on the hour at 10, 12, 14 and 16, sometimes earlier around 9:30, with extra buses added when the queue gets long — and it does get long, with well over a hundred pilots waiting on a good day. There's a daily flying fee too (around €6 as of 2025), easy to forget but worth budgeting for. Landing is generous and forgiving: an official field right at the camp, plus plenty of other usable spots scattered through the valley if a cross-country flight takes you elsewhere.
