Where it is
Monte Paularo launches from 1,624 m in Friuli's Carnia region, about a 30-minute walk from Castel Valdaier, with takeoff sitting right under a cellular antenna on extensive, open lawns — an easy takeoff by the source's own description, and the wide grassy ground gives plenty of room to prepare without feeling boxed in. Flyable directions cover a broad arc from east through south-east, south and south-west to west, so the site stays workable across a good part of the compass. The one hard rule: never fly with wind from the north, which the source flags directly rather than leaving to judgment. Landing is to the south of the village of Paularo, near the sports ground — a clear, easy-to-spot target after the walk-in and the flight both reward a pilot who takes the north-wind warning seriously.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Monte Paularo, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Monte Paularo with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
