Where it is

ThermalsCross-country

Monte Tenchia offers several take-off points, but the best sit right on top of the mountain, about 1 km beyond the antennas, on an enormous stretch of grassland with reliably good wind from east through west. That range of usable directions makes it a flexible launch for thermal and cross-country flying in this part of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The one real hazard to respect is a strong north wind, which is flagged as genuinely dangerous here — well outside the site's normal working range, so it calls for a hard no-fly rather than caution. Landing is near the sports field in Cercivento; follow the signs for the aviation area as you enter town. With generous take-off terrain and a wide wind window, this is a good option for pilots looking to rack up real cross-country distance.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Monte Tenchia, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Monte Tenchia with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
