Where it is

Kapall is a mountain flying area above St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria, at about 2,307 m, with wind favorable from either the east or west. There's no launch or landing fee to fly here. Two separate takeoff options exist: one just west of the chairlift's upper station, and a second one, facing east, north of the Schöngraben lift. There is no official designated landing field at this site — instead, pilots typically land at the edge of St. Anton itself, or in the more open ground east of the valley station near the golf course. Because there's no fixed landing zone, picking a suitable spot on the day and having a backup in mind matters more here than at a site with a marked field. Wildlife protection zones exist around the mountain and pilots need to respect them, keeping clear of those areas during the approach and flight.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Kapall, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Kapall with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
